WORK EXPERIENCE

September 2004 to Present – Associate, Cooper, Sandler Shime & Bergman LLP

  • Criminal defence counsel representing clients in a variety of matters, with a particular focus on: large-scale fraud, conspiracy, defence of quasi-criminal charges and serious driving offences
  • Appellate counsel representing clients at the Ontario Court of Appeal and Superior Court of Justice
  • Act as part-time assistant Crown Attorney and court appointed “amicus curiae”.

  •  Performed legal work in the fields of restructuring and insolvency, litigation and securities law
  • Guest lecturer of a first year Osgoode Hall Law School class regarding the treatment of equality rights under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms

  • Provide expert advice for the Legal Aid Ontario Board of Directors on criminal law issues
  • Assist Legal Aid Ontario Board with the criminal law panel planning process

  • Public Affairs Liaison assisting in developing and communicating the Section’s position on criminal law policy and legislation to the OBA, the public and the provincial government

  • Successfully appealed a decision of an Employment Standards Officer in front of the Ontario Labour Relations Board
  • Acted as an advocate for workers on a variety of matters including dismissal without cause, constructive dismissal, and discrimination

  • Created awareness and encouraged participation in the Osgoode Mooting Society through various communications and marketing initiatives
